We have been listening to Tribe this morning, and DAMN, I love this band. The video for Supercollider reminds me of a Nightdog 'verse. : )

(I have to admit I listened to "Mr. Lieber" (lyrics here) more than once while writing the li'l bastard Jimmy-verse.)

PS. Sorry if you got a spam email from my account - it wasn't me! Have changed my password and am scanning my PC for viruses. Sigh.

I like this short gem by [info]moose_mcmoose, Bullfrog Look. Good characterization and safe for friendshippers. Summary: Wilson doesn't feel well. House is nice-ish and comforts him.

WOW

WOW

Have you ever given someone a challenge and thought, "Well, it's impossible; they'll never do it, but it's sweet they're going to try," only to have that person conquer the challenge so soundly that you're left shaking in awe?

[info]queenzulu made a constructed reality vid for my "Pillory" AU. Remember that? Three years ago for the "Come as You Aren't" challenge, I created a very alternate universe for House and Wilson with a very strict Code of gender roles (as Gileonnen recently put it, "deep, gendered creepiness"). The AU continued with the prequels "Covenant" and "Allison Is a Quick Study."

Zulu found a visual representation for these stories by combining video from different sources, and oh sweet heaven, she made it work. It is stunning, beyond my imagination. It is every bit as dark and hopeful and loving and creepy and enmeshed and twisted and thought-provoking as I wanted "Pillory" to be.

First Wife by [info]queenzulu

Note: I would rate the vid R rather than NC-17, but it does contain disturbing images. See Zulu's warning if you are concerned.

Glee! (The emotion, not the TV show)

  • Oct. 26th, 2009 at 4:35 PM
I am trying not to get too excited, because of that whole chicken-counting aphorism, but... somebody is working on something for me and it might be ready tomorrow!

YAY!!!

PS. It has nothing to do (as far as I know) with Kutner. But he's such a cutie-pants, I wanted him on this post.

PPS. Mare has committed yet more awesome fic: Caught, a remix of [info]topaz_eyes's "Stealth Karma." Warm and floaty.

Multiple recs for the price of one

  • Oct. 24th, 2009 at 6:05 PM
Friendship and slash and fanvids, oh my! A few House recs I want to make, in reverse chronological order:

ETA: Almost Unnameable Lust by [info]jane_hidell, NC-17 overall, about 25,000 words. An episodic journey through Wilson's suicidal life, alongside his unrequited(?) desire for House. Heavy on the angst, and oh so effecting. If you don't get distressed by this one... I don't know what to tell you.

Tables Turned by [info]alternatealto, House/Wilson, NC-17, set before/during/after episode 6-6. Actually, read the prequels linked in the post - Silence, and Silence II - first, then read this. It's about the sex, but then again it's not.

Strategies in Real Estate* by [info]blackmare_9, PG-13 House-Wilson friendship, set during/after episode 6-6. Mare is an author I tend not to rec because she's on my "Everything by this person is awesome" list, but this fic is special.

sometimes the mist falls perfectly* by [info]queenzulu, NC-17 slash, med!school fic, Wilson goes to a party and finds what he's looking for. In the person of a young Eric Foreman. HOT. HOT HOT HOT with maximum confidence and minimum angst. You say you don't like Foreman's character? You'll like this guy.

Back to the Old House* fanvid by [info]verbal_kint10. Post-Season Five reflective House, set to The Smiths’ classic tune. More a gen vid than single-'ship, and effective for it.

*Full disclosure: I beta-ed "Strategies" and specifically requested "sometimes" and "Back."

You may have noticed that I have an affinity for "Wilson is an emotional dunderhead who takes excellent care of others but has no clue how to take care of himself until he drives himself into the ground and House gets pissed/curious/worried enough to do something about it" fics. (Yes, that's a genre; shut up.)

Here's another good one! The Countenance Of The Heart by ShadowCat65. As of right now, at the end of Chapter Four, it's a wonderful friendship fic. The author may be intending to write future chapters that are slash (hasn't marked the story Complete, has labelled it as "Romance"), but I think what's up now can stand on its own as a fic, especially with the great ending lines of Chapter Four.

The author's rating is M for Mature, but I would call it about a PG-13.

Two very awesome short pieces about young House.

Chance Has Been by [info]hannahrorlove, gen, rated G. A moment between John House and his son.

And an AU fic, crossover with Stargate Atlantis. Afterschool Special, rated G, very, very mild slash for teenaged House and teenaged Rodney McKay. Star Trek leads to reflections on life.

I really enjoyed this fic so much: R.I.C.E. in Reverse by [info]phate_phoenix.

It's an alternate version of the episode "The Greater Good," and it really reads like an episode -- although there's a non-canon ending. I think there's something in it for almost everybody on my f-list: hurt!Wilson, Wilson comes to some realizations and says some things many have wanted him to say, Cuddy is intelligent, one touching scene with House and Thirteen (yes, really!), clever!fun!Wilson, good House snaps, great Taub and Kutner cameos...

Friendship-only fans can stop in mid-Part Four when Wilson says, “No more talking. I promise.” Imagine that they hugged and then Wilson walked away whistling. That's... kind of what actually happens at the end. :D

Remix!

  • Jul. 19th, 2009 at 5:04 PM
As you may have already seen on your f-list, the Remix Redux archive is now open.

\o/

Count In Fives, Do It Every Time (There Were Five Times Overdub) takes my story There Were Five Times and fills it out. In a sense, the fic was made to be remixed, and I'm so excited the remixer chose it. Intriguing how the end of Season Four and Season Five weave in so easily, too, enriching the entire experience.

\o/ Go read it!

Still away, but I had to let you know:

[info]cadeira has made a podfic for Hello, Godot, complete with music! I've only had about a minute to listen to it, but it sounds wonderful. Check it out on [info]cadeira's LJ here.

Strong Rec

This is a short fic (under 1000 words) I think most people on my f-list will enjoy.

The Architecture of Heartbreak by [info]corleones. Great setting of tone (wistful, complicated, not entirely happy) and interesting turns of phrase. There are a few spelling mistakes, but the fic is worth ignoring those. The first paragraph includes a passage where Wilson calls House "the curse" but keep reading and you'll see that the fic is not anti-House. Just complicated them, in all their glory.

Two Recs for the Price of One!

  • May. 21st, 2009 at 9:01 PM
Cloud Illusions by [info]geekygecko is a missing scene from episode 5-24 of House. PG-13, friendship. Affecting and powerful -- don't miss the last paragraph.

For a complete change of pace, try an NC-17 House/Cuddy/Wilson (Wilson POV, no shortage of House/Wilson whatsoever) that's pretty much a PWP but also throws in the thrill of the chase. HOT. The First Time by a new writer, [info]thinkpink20. (Note: A few UK spellings/words, e.g., "realises," "coloured," "whilst" -- but only a few.)

Do you like reading about House? Like House-Wilson friendship? Like House-Cuddy friendship-plus? Don't mind major illnesses and sadness/worry in the story as long as no one gets overwrought about it?

You should be reading [info]travlncarrie's story Theirs. It's set several years in the future. Cuddy has a realistic daughter named Mia, and House has slowly come to appreciate and enjoy knowing Mia. Wilson has re-married and has an adopted son, but his friendship with House is still a highly important part of his life. It's warm and wonderful without sappiness. Enjoy.

Peppershaker Pleased :D

I am immensely flattered and happy to recommend two wonderful remixes of my fic Green ("Wilson makes a new friend. House is tickled pink. Or not.").

[info]jdr1184 retells the story from the POV of the girlfriend of Wilson's new friend in The Lutzy Bunch. In the process, JDR has created a fully rounded and charmingly real original character, a woman I'd enjoy being friends with.

[info]hwshipper's tale This Happy State of Affairs transforms a friendship fic into a friendship-with-benefits fic... sexily! (NC-17, House/Wilson, Wilson/OMC) It's very interesting to see how adding sex to the mix changes our perception of Wilson's actions and House's jealousy. Plus, [info]hwshipper and I are in complete agreement on the hotness of teasing touches on a belt.

Ficlet Rec - New Author

A few of my friends aren't watching comms any more, so you might have missed:

That Annoying, Buzzing Noise, a warm and funny House-Wilson friendship ficlet (rated PG-13) by [info]mertondingle

A short "slice of life" incident that feels so very them.

[info]vanyx has, without knowing it, created the opening credits to the half-hour House MD "comma" (comedy with a bit of drama*) that plays in my head!

"I'm not inclined to resign to maturity..."

Minor warning: The recording quality of the video is not the best, and the first few seconds are a little slow, but it picks up most definitely after that.

ETA: Found out the song and graphics for actor names are the same as those used in the credits for the show Psych. So, please enjoy as an homage to the Psych credits.

*Like a "dramedy" but the other way around

I was going to post a little something today, but instead I'm going to send you over to read Cursed Memory of the Organs by [info]bammel. It's very, very much House, so odd and amusing musings are par for the course, but this is not a crack!fic. However much the writer may wish that it was.

Pairing: House/Wilson
Rating: R (Language, hints of kinks, general sexual uncertainty, rudeness; THE MPAA DEMANDS THIS RATING FOR MY TRUCKER MOUTH BUT THIS THING IS PRETTY HARMLESS)
Warnings: Irony, television, talk of "#1", snafflers, imperceptible sexual tension, Wilson fetishism.
Summary: Sometimes the only thing you can be sure of is that when you gotta go, you gotta go. Plus television.
